Bees & Snow

Bees & Snow

How are our Bees cope with the cold weather.

Bees can survive the cold. lets define that a bit more. A healthy full size colony, with an adequate supply of honey and a strong queen can survive a hard winter. When confronted with the brutality of this cold snap, honeybees are just like us. They head inside, hunker down, and eat.

For the bees, that means gathering in a dense cluster and eating the fruits of their labor. Honey, that miraculous amber liquid, is distilled inside the bodies of the bees themselves from flower nectar composed of complex sugars. By the time they finish with it, it has been rendered into the simplest of sugars, which bees, like people, can convert into a ready source of energy.
